How sleep boosts memory

Abstract: How do we strengthen memories while we sleep? In this talk, I will first present findings from human intracranial EEG recordings, showing how coupled sleep rhythms may facilitate conditions for synaptic and systems consolidation. I will then show single-unit data on ripple-mediated reactivation of learning-specific neurons. Finally, I will ask whether we can use ongoing sleep rhythms as a window of opportunity to selectively strengthen memories.
